Growing Herbs in Hydroponics (Using Ball Jars) - Geeky Greenhouse
I trimmed mine and they are still getting yellow leaves higher up the plant. I have watered used fungiside spray, Rot Stop which is calcium and used fish fertilizer. Nothing has worked on stoping the problem with leaves yellowing on me. My plants look bad because of it. The weather here has been really hot and not alotof rain.
Me in Canada who randomly decided to grow tamatos not knowing what I was getting into😂 it just gave its first flowers and its June while my peppers are crying🎉
When can I plant
Feels so good to hear it pronounced correctly 🤭
I have two tomato plants in two separate, probably 5-7 gallon planting buckets. Holes in the bottom. Got good soils in there. Dont overwater. Probably every other day. Still doesn't look right. Leaves seem wilted a smidgen. They are producing fruit. Put em in the beginning of May. No idea what the deal is. I make sure the soil doesnt dry out. Water at the base. Doesnt seem right. Bad soil maybe? I dunno
I have my syngonium in water for already a year. I fertilise once a month as these plants actually do not need that much fertiliser (every 10 days). I trim it sometimes and start the plant all over again to achieve a small and clean look.
No. Old compost may be riddled with pests and their eggs - cutworm is a major problem for me (England), plus snail & slug eggs. I have to buy in new compost every year unfortunately.
My corn is only a foot tall and is starting to tassel. I planted seedlings in late May but the weather turned cool and wet and night time temps down to 6°C overnight. May ad well tear itball out.
How do you support shade cloth for tall tomatoes?
You selling shadecloth? People have been growing tomatoes for centuries in open sun
Nope, his sponsor bootstrap farmer is!😂
Great video, I harvest chamomile too as well as many other herbs.
Thank you😊
I'm forced to plant in 5-gallon fabric bags that offer excellent drainage qualities. I fill them with equal-parts good quality potting mix, composted cow and fish manure, and coconut fiber to keep soil texture light. In the planting hole goes a handful of dry organic tomato fertilizer. I mix a heaping tablespoon of powdered calcium into the soil, set the 8-10" starts deep and firm the soil, then mulch with 1-2" of clean pine shavings. This combination, along with fairly conservative pruning results in fruits that never suffer from blossom-end rot (from lack of calcium uptake) or cracking as the daily watering drains well, no matter if I over-do it. There is no fungus in the sterile mix and the leaves never touch dirt. I sometimes get some leaf curling due to intense sun, but it doesn't seem to affect production. I've been doing it this way for years, and even re-use the same soil every year, with just some added compost to re-fortify it.
Literally just ordered some seeds 30 mins ago. Will hopefully be making this tea in the future!
I've never heard it pronounced that way. I always known it as "cam-o-meel ".
Either is correct!
I want to do this in june , could you please send me best verity name for ultimate hot climate
I planted some this season too..hopefully keeping some seeds is easy?
I alwys water the flower with water breeze if not it dies
Dry soil equals dry leafs dry leafs equal dead plants
Excellent quality presentation. Thanks!
thank you!
So sad for my tomatoe plant's,, fungus gnats in the soil,,,, they are sucking my plant dry..pleas i need help on what to do..😢
Do you do this anytime over 85 or what is your threshold
90+ is a good threshold for peppers/tomatoes
I will never not be amazed that my pepper plants( ig all of my plants) can survive the dry heat where I live, it regularly gets over 100 and I don't do anything to protect them. Maby they're just acclimated or something but it's cool to think about
Different types can handle it better, and once they’re really well established they can handle it. But the heat can make the flowers drop in my experience
Since you mentioned green beans, and for most varieties of peas as well, you don't need to plant them super early, because in warm soil, they will grow and begin producing very quickly. If you wanted to get a head start, don't bother, I planted peas this year, and they grew to about 6 foot in less than a month, and had bloomed & started producing peas in that time. I missed the first crop, because I wasn't expecting them to be putting out new peas so quick. So wait until it's consistently staying above at least 65 degrees at night to plant them, and they'll jump scare you every morning with the amount of growth you'll find. Keep a close eye too, because the peas don't tend last long on the vine. Green beans will keep a bit longer in my experience, and you don't need to worry as much about regularly harvesting.
Here in Iowa it’s been 90 but fully cloudy; is it the air temperature alone a stressor, or is it temp plus sunny skies?
Can I use dried leaves from my yard from last year for mulching?
Did you say you lived in New England? Because I do as well and this year is my first year of growing tomatoes since my retirement. If you do live in New England I will be watching you videos and hopefully going back to watching ones you have already produced. I live in southern New Hampshire.
We are in Connecticut :)
First time gardening. I have clay soil. I usually dig a fairly large hole(ft. Wide), mix it with organic soil, the clay, & cover it with grass. I do believe that it takes a little bit for the plant to grow if the mixture is too loose, since the roots would have a hard time attaching to the soil, but I’ve had success so far.
I just began my seeds about 3 weeks ago. I have 7 healthy 5 inch tall plants so far. But i was wondering what specific fertilizer combo do you recommend ? I live in North Ms, been above 85 the last 2 weeks. Gonna be near 100 the next two.....my seedlings are needing fertilizer as i water them bi-daily theyre showing signs of deficiency at the leaf ends since 2 days ago.
I believe you said it backwards... cherry tomatoes are 'indeterminate' and you don't want to cut out the suckers. Beefstakes are determinate and you do want to remove the suckers to promote more structure to grow tomatoes on.
It can be either, however, most cherry or dwarf are determinate and most beefsteak tomatoes are indeterminate and will grow all season. Your seed packet will let you know which type you have. 😊 Happy planting
I'm seeing the wrong comments section for the video I'm watching. Not sure where this comment will show up!
Growing tomatoes for the first time in my glass balcony and they are looking amazing! The only problem is I have no idea what type they are 😂
Lol it honestly looks like you photoshopped yourself into the video (starting at 2:12)...like the background is fake lol thats when you know youre good at gardening...when your plants appear to have an enhancing filter in real life What are those beautiful pink flowers shown at 7:38?! Whats the ideal drain time for a 1ft hole??
I have some plants stay same size for months. I think herbicide residue
It’s not too late to plant alyssum?
How do you improve the poor drainage and compacted soil?
fake sound effects.
got one today , great video very helpful and i'm amazed to find an american who says soil rather than DIRT
What’s a sucker?
Hiello from North Eastern Michigan.... 8:48 hover flies are one of my favorite bugs! I love watching those guys! I did not know that the alyssum attracted them. I'm so blessed to have a bunch of alyssum all throughout my hanging baskets. I will definitely be on the lookout for those little guys now. Great video btw! Thank you for all the awesome tips! I know my tomatoes would do great this year ❤
Thanks nice vid, can I use grass cuttings as mulch on top of the soil?
I'm in zone 8 where it's taking until almost midnight to drop below 80 degrees these days. My snow peas just started looking bad a couple weeks ago. I knew to let the peas dry on the plant but now, my plants are dying from the ground up before the peas are dry.. still worth saving if the plant poops out before they're dry?
Yes, they can still be viable, I'd just go for the largest pods that appear the oldest and most mature
@@geekygreenhouse thanks
nice video
Thanks for the visit
i started my tomato starts at the end of may and they still have barely any leaves on them.
I already got my first harvest from my Roma tomatoes. It is rare that any of them are still alive in June but two are still alive and one is flowering despite the hot Temperatures. We hit 100 2 days ago and have been consistently in the 90’s for the last month. Night temperatures usually get into the 70’s but one night we never dropped below 80. I defiantly need to save some of those seeds from that plant and hope it’s offspring are just as heat tolerant as it’s parent.
You guys need to grow some hops!
Thx for the video. How many, full harvests do u typically get off a singal plant. I've always heard 2 harvests is awesome. But something new I'm trying is a beneficial microbe that I am adding to the soil this year. The company says, tests have shown they r getting 3 or 4 harvests, with even a few tests showing that these beneficial microbes will push the pea plant the keep producing until fall. The microbes I use will not do good in your environment since these microbes have evolved to survive in our respective environments. I'm in Canada so we have potentially, 6 months of winter. Your microbes would not b able to survive this. But maybe something to consider, and maybe field a local company, that can add some beneficial microbes, to your your soil, that r local to tour environment
They tend to produce well for around a month, picking a handful every few days, definitely slow down in the heat so ours may be done for the year this coming week (going into the 90s for 5 days straight)
Learn a lot from this video, very informative.. New subscriber here from Growing My Own.
